Artist's Statement
Hello, my name is Prudence!
I make art that plays with boundaries. The boundary between childish gesture and formal experimentation, between deeply personal symbolic vocabulary and universal comprehension, between the digital and the physical, and between the stolid and the sensual.
I say that my art "plays with" boundaries, as opposed to "interrogating" or being "about" them, because I consider play to be the most fundamental form of activity, subsuming all other modes. Play is solemn, complex, invisibly woven into every aspect of being a living thing. When the boundaries between "life," "death" and "play" are dissolved, a door is opened into a more complete, vast and humble way of aprehending being. With my art, I aim to usher you through this door. It is my way of asking you to play with me, to traverse the boundary between us, to inspire you to find the play within every part of your life.
